Defibrillators save lives and it’s not just for an aging workforce.
A 16-year-old boy was saved during a school excursion thanks to the easy access to a defibrillator at the fitness centre he was attending.
The first 4 minutes after a cardiac arrest are critical and survival rates diminish by 10% every 10 minutes. Having a defibrillator within timely access is like having a paramedic on staff and increases the chances of survival. Defibrillators are easy to use and most units will talk the operator through CPR. Some units will even give feedback as to whether CPR is being administered effectively which is reassuring to the operator.
